About the Lookout
Evans Lookout is one of the best-known and most popular viewpoints in the Blackheath area and across the entire Blue Mountains.
The lookout was named in 1882 after George Evans, a solicitor who lived in the Blackheath area in the 19th century.

It was upgraded in 2022 and now features a well-sized car park and a wheelchair-accessible path leading directly to the lookout.
From the car park, it’s only a short walk along this path to the main viewing area. There’s a shelter with picnic tables behind the viewing area and an accessible toilet nearby.

The lookout sits right on the edge of the cliffs, offering a clear and wide open view into the Grose Valley.
On a clear day, the views are spectacular, but they’re especially striking at sunset and sunrise, when the cliffs glow a distinct orange.

Walks Nearby
Evans Lookout is the starting point for several bushwalking tracks.
The most popular walk here is the historic Grand Canyon Track, a 6 km loop that winds through rainforest gullies and passes creeks and small waterfalls. Note that it can get quite busy on weekends.

Another popular trail is the Cliff Top Track, a 3 km walk that follows the escarpment to Govetts Leap Lookout, offering scenic valley views along the way.
For a shorter stroll, Valley View Lookout is just a short walk (signposted) from Evans Lookout. It’s a great viewpoint that many visitors overlook, despite the terrific views.
