Blackheath

Blackheath is a town in the upper Blue Mountains, about 115 kilometres west of Sydney. Sitting at one of the highest points in the region, it’s known for its dramatic cliffs, deep valleys, and cooler climate.

Compared to Katoomba and Leura, Blackheath has a quieter, more local feel while still offering easy access to some of the most scenic lookouts and bushwalking tracks in the Blue Mountains.

Lookouts and Walks

Govetts Leap Lookout is the town’s most popular attraction, with wide views across the Grose Valley and its imposing sandstone cliffs. Several walking tracks start from here, including the Cliff Top Track, which leads to Evans Lookout.

Just a short drive from the town centre, Evans Lookout is the starting point for the Grand Canyon Walk, a beautiful loop walk that winds through lush rainforest, slot canyons, and past waterfalls.

Town Centre

In the town centre, you’ll find cafés, bakeries, and antique shops. Blackheath is also known for its community markets and the annual Rhododendron Festival, which celebrates the town’s cool-climate gardens each spring. Blackheath Memorial Park, located nearby, has picnic areas, a playground, and a swimming pool.

Megalong Valley

Blackheath also acts as a gateway to the Megalong Valley, a rural area at the foot of the escarpment. Accessible via a winding road, the valley offers a change of pace, with horse riding trails, vineyards, and scenic countryside views.

There’s a range of accommodation in and around Blackheath, from heritage guesthouses to modern retreats, suited to hikers, couples, and anyone looking for a peaceful getaway.
