The Overcliff Undercliff Track is a 4 km circuit walk in the Wentworth Falls area of the Blue Mountains, passing several lookouts with scenic views.
Unlike some other walks in the area, this one doesn’t descend into the valley or go near the waterfall, but it still offers beautiful scenery.

Getting There
This walk can be started from two locations in Wentworth Falls: the Conservation Hut at the end of Fletcher Street, or the picnic area along Sir H Burrell Drive.
Since it’s a loop, it doesn’t matter too much where you begin, but in the track notes below, we start from the Conservation Hut and walk in a clockwise direction.
To reach the Conservation Hut from the Great Western Highway, take the exit onto Falls Road in Wentworth Falls, then turn right onto Fletcher Street, which leads to a car park.
The closest bus stop is about 100 metres away on Fletcher Street, with an easy connection to the train station.

Track Notes
The Overcliff Undercliff Track is an easy to moderately challenging bushwalk, with a few steep sections.
The track is well-maintained and easy to follow, although there are a few intersections with other walks where you’ll need to watch the signage to stay on course. The loop consists of four sections, which we describe below.
Since it’s a loop, you can walk it in either direction, but we recommend going clockwise from the Conservation Hut, so you’ll get the least inspiring section out of the way first.
Below is a map of the walk, broken into the following four sections:
- Shortcut Track
- Wentworth Falls Track
- Undercliff Track
- Overcliff Track

1. Shortcut Track
To find the start of the walk, look for the large “Valley of the Waters Track” signpost to the left of the Conservation Hut.
Follow the trail from there and take a left at the next intersection. The signpost at that point (see below) mentions the “Short Cut Track” as a 20-minute walk to the picnic area.

As mentioned, this isn’t the most inspiring section of the loop, but it makes for a good warm-up.
Along this stretch, you’ll pass a few intersections with trails leading to lookouts, but you can ignore these for now, as the loop returns to them later.

After about 15 minutes on the Shortcut Track, you’ll arrive at the car park for the Wentworth Falls picnic area.
2. Wentworth Falls Track
From the car park, follow the footpath along Sir H Burrell Drive, which passes two scenic lookouts: Jamison Lookout and Wentworth Falls Lookout.
You won’t see the waterfall from these two wheelchair-accessible lookouts, but the views over the Jamison Valley are excellent.

At Wentworth Falls Lookout, follow the path down into the bush (signposted as the Wentworth Falls Track) until you reach an intersection with a short side trail to Fletchers Lookout.
While this detour isn’t technically part of the Overcliff Undercliff Track, we recommend taking it, as the views of the waterfall and valley are well worth it.

To continue on the main track, turn right at the intersection. This is where the Undercliff Track begins, heading west away from the waterfall.
3. Undercliff Track
The Undercliff Track is arguably the most scenic section of the loop, winding through beautiful surroundings with rock overhangs, stepping stones, and lush moss and fern vegetation.

The path runs close to the cliff edge but remains safe and easy to walk, offering impressive views over the Jamison Valley along the way.

After about 1 km, the track reaches a small footbridge over Den Fenella Creek. This is where the Undercliff Track transitions into the Overcliff Track.
Note that you can do a short detour here to Den Fenella Lookout, a quiet vantage point with stunning valley views. It’s only a short, 10-minute detour, and we recommend it.
4. Overcliff Track
From the footbridge across the creek, the track continues through scenic bushland, heading towards two lookouts: Breakfast Point Lookout and Lyrebird Lookout.

Breakfast Point Lookout isn’t signposted, but you won’t miss it. It features a stone wall and offers excellent views over the Jamison Valley.
The second vantage point, Lyrebird Lookout, isn’t the most impressive, but it provides clear views of Sublime Point and Mount Solitary.

After about 1.2 km on the Overcliff Track, you’ll reach an intersection with the Valley of the Waters and Empress Falls walking tracks.
To return to the Conservation Hut, turn right at that intersection. This final stretch is short but fairly steep.
