Rigby Hill Walking Track (Breathtaking Valley Views)

The Rigby Hill Walking Track is a short bushwalking trail leading to a panoramic vantage point, offering stunning views of the Grose Valley.

The walk starts at the car park for the Pierces Pass walking trail, which can be reached via the Bells Line of Road.

Getting There

The trailhead for the Rigby Hill Walking Track is at the end of Pierces Pass Road off Bells Line of Road (see map location).

Look for the “Pierces Pass Picnic Area” signpost on Bells Line of Road. Turn into Pierces Pass Road there, and drive to the end where you’ll see a well-sized car parking area.

Note that this is an unsealed road, but it is in good condition. A 4WD vehicle isn’t necessary, but be mindful of potholes, especially after rainfall.

The map below shows the trail to Rigby Hill starting from the car park.

Track Notes

The Rigby Hill Track is short and fairly easy, but it has quite a few steps and the surface is uneven throughout. Also note that the viewing area on top of Rigby Hill is unfenced with a steep drop-off into the valley.

We recommend combining this walk with the Walls Lookout Walking Track. The trailhead for that walk is at the car park at the start of Pierces Pass Rd (signposted) and is also very short.

The Walk

From the car park, look for the small signpost next to the big boulder and the picnic table. You can’t miss it!

The track heads straight into the bush from that signpost, first going uphill via a narrow path, with a couple of stairs and some steps to navigate.

About halfway into the walk, the scenery starts to open up with Rigby Hill and the Grose Valley visible in the distance.

This is where the trail becomes prettier the closer you get to the hill. On your left, you’ll also be able to see the trail to Walls Lookout.

Once you’ve reached the foot of the hill, climb up the small staircase and keep walking on the path until you reach the summit.

Try and find the altitude sign. It’s a bit hidden in the bushes, but beyond that sign, the views get even better as you get closer to the cliff edge.

What’s great about this spot is that quite a few Blue Mountains landmarks can be recognised. Hanging Rock, specifically, is easy to identify on the other side of the valley.

On a clear day (bring binoculars if you have them!), you should also be able to see Mount Banks, Perrys Lookdown, and Anvil Rock Lookout. And in the valley, you can see and hear the Grose River flowing.

Be mindful that this viewing area is completely unfenced with a very rocky and uneven surface area.

As such, be careful at all times, and stay a few metres away from the cliff edges.

Once you’ve finished exploring the beautiful Rigby Hill, retrace your steps back to the Pierces Pass car park via the same path.

As mentioned above, we recommend doing the Walls Lookout and the Rigby Hill walking tracks on the same day, as they’re both short and close to one another.

Another great hike nearby is the Mount Banks Summit Walk, a 2.5 km return walking trail to the summit of one of the most recognisable mountain tops in the Blue Mountains.
