About the Lookout

Once you’ve parked, simply follow the short 200-metre bush path to the lookout.

Before you do, it’s worth reading the information board at the start of the trail to learn more about this unique area.

There are two vantage points to explore. The first is straight ahead at the end of the path.

The second, which many visitors often skip, is a little further to the east. To get there, follow the path eastbound, past the wide gap between the cliffs.

If you look carefully, you might catch glimpses of the train line and the two historic tunnels in the distance, though they can be hard to spot.

Regardless, the views from the lookout over the gorge, to Kurrajong in the north, and across the plains of Western Sydney to the west, are superb. On a clear day, you may even be able to see the peaks of Mt Banks and Mt Tomah.

If you’re keen to get a closer look at the railway and tunnels, we recommend visiting Ross Lookout and Lapstone Tramway Lookout.

Both of these lookouts are located in Lapstone on the other side of the gorge and are easy to access via short walks from Bluff Reserve.

Once you’ve finished exploring the scenic Tunnel View Lookout, we recommend driving to Portal Lookout, which is only 1.5 km away via Mount Portal Trail.

From the sizeable car park, a short, wheelchair-friendly boardwalk leads to this lookout offering great views over Nepean River.
