7 Best Walks in Wentworth Falls

Wentworth Falls is both a village and the name of one of the most recognisable waterfalls in the Blue Mountains.

The area is a popular tourist destination, with a mix of scenic clifftop lookouts, impressive waterfall views, and energising bushwalking tracks.

This guide highlights seven of the best walks, from easy, family-friendly trails to more challenging tracks along the escarpment and into the Jamison Valley.

1. Empress Falls Walk

Empress Falls is a small but impressive waterfall in the Wentworth Falls area that can be reached via a walking track from the Conservation Hut.

The walk is quite short, but it involves a fairly steep descent into the Valley of the Waters. Once you reach Empress Falls, you can continue along the trail to explore several more waterfalls in the valley.

Along the way, the track passes two lookouts, including Queen Victoria Lookout with its scenic views over the Jamison Valley.

2. Wentworth Falls Walk

The Wentworth Falls Walk is a short and family-friendly trail that leads to the top of the iconic Wentworth Falls waterfall.

Starting from the parking area on Sir H Burrell Drive, the walk passes a couple of lookouts, including Jamison Lookout and Wentworth Falls Lookout, before heading into the bush towards the top of the falls.

Once you arrive at the top, you can continue to the middle section of the waterfall via the Grand Stairway if you feel like extending the walk.

3. Rocket Point Lookout Track

Instead of descending the Grand Stairway to the middle section of the waterfall, you can follow the short trail to Rocket Point Lookout.

The start of this track is signposted just beyond the creek crossing at the top of the falls, and the lookout is only about 100 metres from that point.

Rocket Point Lookout is a surprisingly quiet spot with stunning views of Wentworth Falls on one side and the Jamison Valley on the other.

4. Darwins Walk

The family-friendly Darwins Walk follows Jamison Creek from Wilson Park near the train station to the top of Wentworth Falls, winding through pleasant bushland scenery.

Formerly known as the Charles Darwin Walk, this popular and dog-friendly track includes bridges and boardwalks, making it suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

It’s an ideal option for those travelling by public transport, as it links the town centre directly to the waterfall.

5. Valley of the Waters Track

The Valley of the Waters Track extends the walk to Empress Falls from the Conservation Hut and continues to three more waterfalls further down the valley.

This 2.5-kilometre return trail is one of the most rewarding in the area, with four smaller waterfalls and stunning rainforest scenery to explore.

Although the walk is short, it is quite steep, and the track can be slippery in places, so be prepared for a bit of effort.

6. Nature Track

The Nature Track is an often-overlooked but very scenic 3.5-kilometre circuit that starts and finishes at the Conservation Hut.

The first part of this moderately challenging walk follows the escarpment before it descends into a section of the Valley of the Waters.

It passes through varied terrain, with creek crossings, valley views, and small waterfalls, before meeting the Empress Falls Walk near the end of the loop.

7. Overcliff Undercliff Track

The Overcliff Undercliff Track is an energising circuit linking the Conservation Hut in the west with the picnic area in the east of the Wentworth Falls precinct.

This 4-kilometre walk combines the Wentworth Falls Walk, the Undercliff Track, the Overcliff Track, and the Shortcut Track. It doesn’t pass close to any waterfalls, but the clifftop scenery and valley views make it a rewarding walk.

The Wentworth Falls area has three major loop walks, but with the National Pass and Wentworth Pass closed for several years, the Overcliff Undercliff Track is now the only one still open.
